Library Collections

The Museum's of Old York's Library Collections consist of primary and secondary documents published and unpublished. This collection will assist the patron gathering information on Historic York, York County and Maine. Information on cultural arts, historic preservation, architecture and genealogy can be researched with the books, manuscripts, photographs, compact discs, microfilm, microfiche on site. We are not a circulating library but encourage you to use our reading rooms for research free to members and students or with a daily $5 charge for non-members.

The holdings of the library at the Museums of Old York contain over a thousand reference books published in the nineteenth and twentieth century. While the library's holdings are predominately Maine related or genealogical subjects, there are a number of Massachusetts reference books including the set of Massachusetts Soldiers and Sailors. The newly published vital records of some New Hampshire towns have been donated to our library. A set of New Hampshire State Papers are also housed here. For genealogists, the museum library has research compiled on over five hundred local surnames. For a complete list of surnames, please click here.
